HOSPICE Urgent TOOL and Resource Alert!
October 1st is the date! Highlight it- and ensure your entire team is aware! All new patients, being admitted on or after 10/1/26 MUST have an election addendum! It is not a choice, but a mandate! This is a Condition of Payment- so any patients with a SOC date on or after 10/1/26 must have this document to ensure payment going forward!
We recommend completing this addendum with each election, on day ONE- even if you anticipate changes to medications, etc. You can then update the addendum as modifications are made!
Start practicing this new procedure today, and use these next three weeks as a runway to ensure full compliance! To help your process, review the additional tools and education resources attached.
Lastly, hospices must update their election and election addendum verbiage for all admissions on 10/1/26. Our partners at Briggs have graciously allowed us to share their form examples with these updates. We are including those examples with the tools here. Note: CMS has promised updated example forms as well, but those have not yet been published.
